1970 was the bicentenary of Captain James Cook's voyage of
discovery along the east coast of Australia. To commemorate this momentous
anniversary a number of native plant cultivars were released to the gardening
public. The most enduring of these cultivars is a bottlebrush known as Callistemon
Endeavour named in honour of Cook's legendary vessel. This tall shrub has stiff
deep green leaves and brilliant crimson brushes which appear throughout the
year. Remove spent flowers to encourage compact growth. Callistemon Endeavour
makes an excellent hedge or screen plant. This cultivar must be propagated from
cuttings.
