Goodenia_humilis.JPG (28998 bytes)Goodenia humilis: is a member of the Goodeniaceae family and is a dwarf perennial with spreading rosettes of leaves. Plants will root where the rosettes touch the ground. The leaves are long and narrow, often with toothed margins.
Yellow flowers are carried on branching stems and are about one centimetre across. Peak flowering is in spring and summer. Many Goodenias are characterised by these cheerful yellow flowers.
Goodenia humilis is an attractive small plant that grows best in moist or wet soils. The species could be cultivated in rockeries sheltered by other plants. Under ideal conditions individual plants will cover large areas. Goodenia humilis could also be grown in containers.
Our plant (see image) at the time of writing (December 2005) is still in its original pot. We will probably transfer the plant into a larger container until we decide on the best situation in the garden. We will also be dividing the plant so that there are more specimens to plant out.
Goodenia humilis is native to southern New South Wales , Victoria , Tasmania and South Australia .
The species means low and refers to the growth habit.
Propagation is by division.
