H.ram.jpg (50538 bytes)Helichrysum ramosissimum: is a member of the Asteraceae (Daisy) family. One common name is Yellow Buttons.
Yellow Buttons is a dense ground cover with grey-green leaves and globular, orange-yellow flower heads. They are six millimetres across. The species flowers for lengthy periods.
Helichrysum ramosissimum suckers vigorously and forms dense mats.
Yellow Buttons is a native of south eastern Queensland and used to be included in the Helichrysum apiculatum complex. Just to confuse matters the genus may have been changed to Chrysocephalum.
We first saw Yellow Buttons on Burke’s Backyard a lifestyle television programme. Don Burke, the presenter, showed Yellow Buttons in his garden and the plants had formed large, orange-yellow carpets. We have a plant that is spreading in all directions and intend planting many more specimens throughout our gardens.
Yellow Buttons could be cultivated wherever a dense, colourful ground cover is required. Of course this applies to almost any part of the garden.
The species propagates rapidly from cuttings.
