Homoranthus prolixus is a prostrate to spreading shrub reaching a height of less than 30 centimetresH.prolixus2.JPG (37983 bytes) with a spread of at least one metre. The branches have a layered appearance. The leaves are about six millimetres long with leaf margins that are curved inwards, grey-green in colour and aromatic when crushed.

Flowers are tubular, carried in erect clusters, cream and dull red and appear in spring and summer. Blooms contain nectar and attract insects.

Homoranthus prolixus has attractive growth habit, foliage and flowers. The species could be cultivated in rockeries or spilling down embankments.

Homoranthus prolixus is a native to New South Wales and is found on the Northern Tablelands and the North West Slopes.

The specimen illustrated is growing in the Goonoowigall Bushland Reserve near Inverell on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. The species is common in the Reserve and large colonies cover granite outcrops.
