Pseudognaphalium.JPG (31097 bytes)Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum: Is known as the Jersey Cudweed and is a member of the Asteraceae (Daisy) family.
Jersey Cudweed is a spreading perennial herb with grey foliage. The leaves are long and narrow. Plants may reach a diameter of 50 centimetres.
In spring and summer plants become covered in bright yellow flower heads. A mature plant will carry dozens of colourful flowers. The flowers  light up the garden. Foliage and flowers complement each other.
In our cold climate, plants tend to die down in winter but bounce back in spring.
We bought a Pseudognaphalium plant some years ago. The plant was unlabelled but we were attracted by the foliage and flowers. Some time later we saw a labelled plant in a nursery. This solved our identification problem.
Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum propagates readily from cuttings and we now have many plants scattered throughout our gardens. We grow this species in close proximity to Craspedia variabilis.
Rockeries and native cottage gardens are excellent venues for the cultivation of this colourful Australian plant.
The species was previously known as Gnaphalium luteoalbum.
