Wave Rock: is a dramatic landscape feature that is situated near
Hyden, 340 kilometres east of Perth in Western Australia.
Wave rock is a granite cliff that is 15 metres high and 110 metres long. The
impressive rounded shape was caused by weathering and water erosion that has
undercut the base and left the rounded overhang. During wetter months water,
from springs, runs down the rock. The water contains minerals that add to
the colour of the wave.
More than 140,000 tourists visit the area annually. As well as Wave Rock the
area is rich in native plants. Many species flower profusely in spring.
We visited Wave Rock many years ago and were impressed by the size of this
unique landscape feature.
