Week 1 February 2001: Over 80 millimetres of rain this week. Our plants are refreshed, water tank is full, dams received run-off and the frogs are spawning in our ponds. What more could one ask.

Replanting some of our garden beds this week. Over the Christmas period we lost some plants, due to neglect during the festive season and lack of rain. We have now mulched the beds and will water more regularly over summer. This should ensure their survival. In future we will be more careful with planting during the middle of summer.

Picking tomatoes this week. We grow a variety known as Tommy Toe. This variety produces many clusters of small fruit. Over the years these tomatoes have gone feral with plants coming up in our gardens amongst the natives. These exotic invaders often cover an area of one or two square metres. They do not harm the other plants and we relish being able to pick fresh, organic tomatoes.

We have some Callistemon pallidus growing on the island in our Big Dam. This is a beautiful Bottlebrush with bright yellow flowers. They finished flowering a few weeks ago so we waded across to the island and pruned the plants.  Each branch was cut off behind the spent flowers. This will promote lots of bushy growth and a proliferation of flowers next season.
