Week 4 January 2001: The hot, dry spell is still continuing. Some of our plants are becoming very relaxed. Even with some watering we may have lost a couple of Banksias and one or two Correas. Some Prostantheras are also wilting but they will probably survive. It is sad to lose plants but living in New England with droughts as well as frosts you must expect some losses. On a more positive note: at least 99.9% of our plants are surviving and thriving.

We have previously mentioned the herbaceous plants regenerating at Yallaroo since sheep were removed from the property. Fringed Lilies (Thysanotus species) are one of these regenerating herbaceous natives. In spring large numbers of these attractive plants flowered profusely. This week their fruits have ripened and we spent some time harvesting seeds. Hopefully we will be able to germinate the seeds and introduce the plants into our gardens.

Bursaria spinosa (Blackthorns) are flowering throughout Yallaroo. Blackthorns are one of our regenerating shrubs. These tall plants are lighting up the Yallaroo landscape with their creamy-white flowers.
